๐ Diabetes
Questions
Is Dr. Chaurasia good for diabetes
management in Kolkata?
+
Yes. Diabetes management is one of Dr. Chaurasia's core areas of practice. He offers
comprehensive care including blood sugar monitoring guidance, HbA1c tracking, lifestyle counselling
(especially for Bengali diet), medication management, and complication screening (kidneys, eyes, nerves,
heart).
Can Type 2 Diabetes be cured?
+
Type 2 Diabetes cannot be "cured" in the traditional sense, but it can go into
remission โ meaning blood sugar stays normal without medication โ especially if caught
early and treated aggressively with lifestyle changes. Weight loss of 10โ15% of body weight, combined with a
low-carbohydrate diet and regular exercise, can achieve remission in many patients. Long-term it requires
ongoing management.
Which diabetes test is more important โ
fasting sugar or HbA1c?
+
Both are important but measure different things. Fasting sugar shows your
blood glucose at one point in time. HbA1c shows your average blood sugar over the past 2โ3
months and is the gold standard for monitoring long-term control. For diagnosis and ongoing monitoring,
HbA1c is generally the more reliable measure. However, fasting and post-meal glucose tests are also
important for day-to-day management.

Pressure Questions
Can I stop BP medicine when I feel
fine?
+
No โ this is one of the most dangerous mistakes patients make. High blood
pressure (hypertension) typically has no symptoms. Feeling fine does not mean your BP is under control โ it
means your medicine is working. Stopping medication abruptly can cause a rebound spike in BP, which can lead
to heart attack or stroke. Always consult Dr. Chaurasia before changing or stopping any BP medication.
What is a dangerous BP reading?
+
Normal BP is below 120/80 mmHg. High BP (hypertension) is defined as 130/80 mmHg or above.
A reading above 180/120 mmHg is a hypertensive crisis and requires immediate medical
attention โ call your doctor or go to an emergency room immediately.
๐ฆ Thyroid
Questions
When should I get my thyroid
tested?
+
Get thyroid tests (TSH, T3, T4) if you have symptoms such as: unexplained weight gain or
loss, persistent fatigue, hair fall, feeling too cold or too warm, constipation or diarrhoea, irregular
periods, depression or anxiety, palpitations, or swelling in the neck. Women above 35 should have a baseline
thyroid test even without symptoms.
Can I take my thyroid medicine with
breakfast?
+
Ideally, no. Thyroid medicine (levothyroxine/thyroxine) is best taken on
an empty stomach, 30โ60 minutes before breakfast. Food โ especially calcium-rich foods, soy, and high-fibre
foods โ can significantly reduce absorption. Coffee can also interfere. Take it as soon as you wake up, then
wait before eating.

managing multiple medicines), fall risk evaluation, and managing multiple chronic conditions simultaneously.
